Emergency Housing Form

Purpose:

The UMKC Culture of Care commits us to offer students “programs and services that support and facilitate their growth, development and academic achievement.” There may be times that a student without an active Residential Life contract requires temporary housing to be successful or to continue in their academic pursuits. As a member of the UMKC community, Residential Life is in the unique position of operating student serving housing that may meet this need.

Policy:

When Residential Life has capacity, a limited number of spaces will be designated and reserved to temporarily house students in circumstances that prevent them from living safely elsewhere. Eligibility to reside in emergency housing will be determined through an intake facilitated by the Basic Needs Coordinator. The student residing in emergency housing will be charged based on the current resident rate for that room type (typically single with shared restroom). The charge will be placed on the student’s University account and if funds are identified to reduce the student’s cost those can be applied through the financial aid process. The typical maximum length of stay is 14 calendar days. While living in emergency housing the student is expected to follow all Residential Life policies and community expectations and may be removed from emergency housing if this expectation is not met. The student will be financially responsible for any damage repair or excessive cleaning required after their departure. Students with a history of university conduct or criminal behavior may be denied the opportunity to reside in emergency housing.

  • A 14 day stay at the single with shared restroom rate during the 2023-2024 academic year has a cost of $501.62. For shorter stays the daily rate is $35.83*
